I’ve often sat and wondered
just who a friend could be,
people who I already know,
and are so close to me?
♥
Yes, they are my friends
so special, warm, and true,
but people I don’t even know,
they also can be my friends too.
♥
Perhaps they are the drifters
traveling the country side,
or the homeless in the streets,
who have no food to buy?
♥
What about the farmer
who plants and grows our food,
can’t they also be a friend
to folks like me and you?
♥
What about the lonely waitress
in the Bar and Grill,
workings sixty hours,
just to pay her bills?
♥
How about the greeter at Wal-Mart
who meets us at the door?
“Good evening, how are you,
haven’t we met before?”
♥
What about the teacher
the knowledge they do impart,
so our children will be smarter,
in mind and in heart?
♥
What about the carpenter
so genius in his craft,
and the telephone linemen?
I wouldn’t want his task.
♥
There are so many people
who we don’t even see,
people who would make the best,
of who a friend can be!
♥
