~* Hot Summer Days *~

The heat index is soaring
It's unbearably hot outside
Steam is rising from the walk
Too much sun will burn your hide.

How did we survive way back then
On those long hot summer days
Air conditioning wasn't even invented
We all suffered from the sun's rays.

I remember when I was just a kid
To get relief from the baking sun
We'd all go swimming in the creek
It was cooling and so much fun.

But nighttime was humid and oh so sticky
A fan circulated the hot air
We'd lie on top of all our sheets
Uncovered and quite bare.

Nowadays kids wear shorts to school
And air conditioning is all they know
But you and I lived through it all
We just went along with the flow.

Do you think we might be spoiled now?
Because I sure can't stand the heat
I happen to love my air conditioning
On hot summer days, it's such a treat!
