Who was this man, my dad?
An example in work, in play,
Looking to God to guide each day;

An encourager to pursue the finer things of life,
Music, art, reading, and a way of life;

A model for helping others and sharing bounty,
Hard work, perseverance with business acuity;

An adventurer eager to explore the world,
From Vancouver to Outer Banks, to Brazil,
Israel and Europe;

A student, always learning from books galore,
Buying a yacht, at age seventy, that would sleep four;

A story-teller of three-headed dragons
inhabiting Panther Creek,
And Snorky the Eagle carrying him for thrills to seek;

A father with five young mouths to feed,
Planting by lantern light many plants and seeds.

Who was this man, my dad?
The memories, how rich,
so numerous my mind is flooding
Of Bible studies, poems to read,
talking 'til two in the morning;

Thank you, Dad, for all this, and more.
We miss you, you know, on this beautiful Earth.
But we'll see you again in a more wonderful place
To sing for all Eternity, God's love and grace.
